garmin 2820 locked
my maps on computer are unlocked but when I transfer them to unit they are locked

You may talk about what you need to do and point to any thread here that has info "software even old stuff" but not supply NEW stuff here by uploading a link.
the member can search Web for it and come and say I have it and you can proceed to say what to do.

no y don't understand my maps are unlocked legally on my computer but when I transfer them to my unit they become locked

I don't use Garmin Maps so I don't have the need to unlock anything even other brands of GPS's, the Mapping software I use is not locked in anyway and is not a "Tell me how to get from A to B GPS" is a Moving Map display GPS locked.

If they are legally unlocked on the PC for your SP 2820 then the necessary *.unl code will be generated when you transfer the maps to your device using MapInstall. So, a couple of questions: Did you buy the PC installed mapping data (i) for the 2820 or (ii) for another device?
