Mostly smartphone, as I have few different navigation systems installed, so I can switch from one to another quckly if needed.
iGo on car navi system and Google maps on android devices
Building on my previous introduction, I wanted to share a bit more about how I use and optimize my GPS systems. For me, it’s not just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about the user experience and keeping these older units at their peak performance.
My main focus is on:
Map Accuracy: I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to database updates. I’m currently working on integrating 2024 maps into my WinCE Erisin unit, ensuring all POIs and speed cams are up to date.
Custom Interfaces: I believe an older unit doesn't have to look 'old.' That’s why I'm deep into WolfNCU customization. I want my VW Golf to have a seamless, OEM-like look with a blue-themed skin that matches the car's interior.
Reliability on the Road: Whether it’s the Magneti Marelli RT4 in my Peugeot or the Erisin in the Golf, I value stability. I enjoy the 'trial and error' process of tweaking sys.txt files and baud rates to get that perfect satellite lock.
I spend a lot of time testing different navigation engines (iGO Primo is my current favorite) to see which one handles resources better on 128MB or 256MB RAM devices.
I'm really glad to find a place where people still appreciate the art of 'reviving' these dedicated units instead of just relying on a smartphone for everything.
Looking forward to sharing my progress with the community!
