I use an older Sony SP smartphone without sim card as a dedicated GPS device (driving, hiking, cycling). I use my LG G3 smartphone in everyday life

For short routes, when I am just looking an address I use on-boad navi (IGO on WinCE), for long trips I use IGO on Android smartphone, both offline. If I need traffic info, I use Google Maps on android smartphone.

I do exactly the same, prefer the TomTom in the car but phone has far better battery life when walking around

I got a hand me down Garmin standalone, I hardly use that as the phone app is much easier to update and maintain.

Another point is how much nicer a phone screen is versus the tiny LCD screen on standalones.

I talk, text, and sometimes check email on my phone. I navigate with a GPS.

I have tried many devices but ended up with Huwei T3 8" Tab.

    It has:
    iGO Gift
iGO Israel (+ pongo customized by me)
    iGO Primo
    Sygic GPS
    Copilot GPS
    TomTom NDS
    Here Maps
    Google Maps

On my Note 8 just iGO World and Copilot GPS Sygic in Car (TT maps unfortunately) + Google Maps

I use licensed software, I never regreted. I can find anything here but I support developers by using licensed software.

    EDIT:
TABLET RETIRED (too big) and ended up witht he ZTE BLADE 10
