    If you have a later MS install i don't think it will work properly, if at all, with BCs. Probably Garmin nobbled MS intentionally after they released HP for use specifically with BCs. You could try an earlier MS version from the old Perry Index on the Wayback Machine:
    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    There's been occasional references to Navionics but nothing recent or of any importance as far as i can see, like these: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    That's an old dirty trick by software vendors, start charging an annual renewal fee or raise the price once their stuff gets popular enough to get away with it.

    @Butters

    Just started looking at the individual .img's in my original install folder. I ran gimgunlock on one of them and it said XOR not 0, fix it first. Well, all of the img files are the same. This must be preventing Mapsource and Homeport from picking them up even though GarminUnlocker said all was unlocked. Hmm....I will have to run gimgxor on all of them and see what happens!

    Update - Well I did that and no difference. Mapsource and Homeport don't see anything except that vertical yellow area I showed in the post above.

    OK. The penny may have finally dropped for me.

    I admit to not having closely looked at what you were doing until now, I thought you had a fully compiled BlueChart IMG file that you'd used to make a 'preview map' PC install by reverse-engineering it in GMapTool. I've now carefully re-read everything.

    I think what you have is the old-style installed version of your BC Americas V8.50 which you've found on your PC. If so, that was placed there by your CD when you ran it previously. Of course it may not be unlocked for the device to which you now want to install it, but if you want to use it in an older or patched version of MapSource you should be able to select tiles to make a locked image file which you can then unlock with gimgunlock.exe for use by any device. If it shows as 'locked' in MapSource, you can run one of the unlockers (not gimgunlock.exe) mentioned in the initial post or Post #3 here. It will then be considered as "Not Lockable" rather than "Locked" and MS will allow you to select tiles and send a compiled *.IMG file to a media card for final unlocking with gimunlock. Best not to unlock IMGs directly on the device for safety but it can be done that way with gimunlock.

    If you can't get MS or HP to see the installation because there's missing reg files due to it being previously installed on a different PC or a previous OS, i do have a copy of Americas 2008 CD files somewhere in my old back-ups if that's any help to you. It's only 6 months older than your V8.5 i think .. i.e. [200]8.5 ?

    @Butters

    Yes, you've got it now. Your first paragraph is correct also. I do have a gmapsupp.img file made from mapsource years ago. I did use GMapTool to create an installation for mapsource and it works fine. I can see the bluechart areas, etc.

    What I'm having trouble with is trying to re-install bluechart americas v8.5, the version that created the above gmapsupp.img but without the CD (which I have somewhere). I thought I could just take all the 5000 .img files in my old Garmin folder and somehow import them into mapsource. I did try to do this with GMapTool like above. I did get the install.bat file but after running it and starting mapsource, it just gives me that vertical yellow line. So I guess I'm not thinking right and really I have to get my CD and re-install properly, yes??

    BTW, I did find yesterday MapsetToolkit from years ago. I think it does what GMapTool does, yes?? I thought MapsetToolkit could create the .reg entries. I'm tempted to try it.

    I don't think MapsetToolkit will cut it either unfortunately but you may as well try it. I agree the ideal would of course be to find your CD and just re-install it.
