OK. The penny may have finally dropped for me.
I admit to not having closely looked at what you were doing until now, I thought you had a fully compiled BlueChart IMG file that you'd used to make a 'preview map' PC install by reverse-engineering it in GMapTool. I've now carefully re-read everything.
I think what you have is the old-style installed version of your BC Americas V8.50 which you've found on your PC. If so, that was placed there by your CD when you ran it previously. Of course it may not be unlocked for the device to which you now want to install it, but if you want to use it in an older or patched version of MapSource you should be able to select tiles to make a locked image file which you can then unlock with gimgunlock.exe for use by any device. If it shows as 'locked' in MapSource, you can run one of the unlockers (not gimgunlock.exe) mentioned in the initial post or Post #3 here. It will then be considered as "Not Lockable" rather than "Locked" and MS will allow you to select tiles and send a compiled *.IMG file to a media card for final unlocking with gimunlock. Best not to unlock IMGs directly on the device for safety but it can be done that way with gimunlock.
If you can't get MS or HP to see the installation because there's missing reg files due to it being previously installed on a different PC or a previous OS, i do have a copy of Americas 2008 CD files somewhere in my old back-ups if that's any help to you. It's only 6 months older than your V8.5 i think .. i.e. [200]8.5 ?
