Disregarding any possible hardware incompatibilities which can indeed lead to irreversible hard-bricking of the navi. However, assuming theoretically that the EU hardware you're asking about is compatible with US firmware, the problem for you in the UK is that US fw is not intended to account for riding on the left so can cause dangerous navigation errors. GW owners on the continent don't have that particular problem but many who have imported NA GWs are not happy with English and are unable to change the voice and text to their own language without paying for an expensive hacked fw. Original NA fw has only EN or EN and FR depending on version.

I am running a 2009 airbag Goldwing using a CF card for the GPS. It has the original V2 of the firmware which has a few problems recalculating routes when I start "busking" a journey. I understand the updated firmware helps sort this problem out. Incidentally I have managed for find V2.6 on this site so will try to upgrade to that version and see what happens. I think I am correct that V2.7 is the most recent so if anyone can help me source that I would be grateful.
