It's theoretical, more an optimistic 'rule of thumb' than an absolute. If the PCB P/Ns match then a hybrid cross-flash with the original boot.bin is possible. However if both HWIDs match it's always possible. Not always works with just PCB match, 3790 conversion to 3490 is a case in point, full flash works but no good with the 37x0 boot.bin [unless the 34x0 fw_all.bin is first compressed]. It's getting harder and harder to flash US>Asian with newer units. It's easier with older units.

I don't chuck in the towel quickly either, so let's bat on. Some questions and further suggestions:

  • Was that the exact same result you got when you tried the TH firmware? Traditionally, SG [historically and generally in my experience] is likely to be the most compatible of the Asian FWs for US/EU units which is why i suggested you try it.
  • There may be a conflict in the Voice, Text and/or Keyboard files, so move them off the unit and try again with TH and then SG. You could also try TWN conversion.
  • Try compressing the Asian fw_all.bin with kunix's packer gfw.exe: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Sometimes the original boot bin cannot handle a larger fw_all bin [that was the problem with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] post#310]. You could also try with an earlier version of Asian fw which perhaps has a smaller fw_all bin more approximating the current US one.

Be sure to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] regularly, both before and after flashing any fw. Before you even think about going any further, if you haven't already, please [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] now.
