Could this Nuvi now be upgraded and downgraded using the normal Gupdate.gdc method or would it be better if the user just uses it and does not "fiddle" with it.

What exactly? Well, I don't understand the difference between ramloader's and bootloader's flashing algorithms either.

I think it's wise not to upgrade it at all. Only if it's absolutely required. And use RGN files (without boot.bin, probably).
