Yes, you must first convert the GCD to an RGN then flash with Updater.exe in preboot mode. But because the device is showing "loading" message after "system software missing" it likely has a corrupt gupdate.gcd in its .System folder so you may need to load 'cure' fw to re-enable Mass Storage Mode so it can be deleted. See: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], in particular read all of the initial post there and if you need further explanation read this too: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

When it's showing in Device Manager under "GARMIM Devices", it's in preboot mode.

Seems like I'm out of luck. When i tried flashing the "cure" firmware using updater exe, it errors out and says:

"The GARMIN device has returned an error status while receiving data packets. This could be due to a malfunction in the GARMIN device or an error in this application. If this error continues to occur, please contact GARMIN Technical Support."

On a side note, after making the firmware in GarminCure3, when I press the "Updater.exe" button, it just errors out saying: "ERROR: can't run C:\Users\name\Desktop\garmin cure\updater.exe"

I have to manually drag the firmware into Updater.exe for it to open and start working.

Fixed by running GarminCure3.exe as administrator.

After flashing cure firmware, eventually the device reboots into the same "system software missing" then "loader loading..."

Unable to get it into storage mode by holding the screen in the various places.

It probably took over 10 attempts to get the cure to work, but finally it was successful. It would keep erroring out. Now windows keeps saying there's a problem with the removable drive and repeatedly disconnects and reconnects it. We're making progress.

Wasn't able to delete any files on the drive since it was disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds, so i just did a quick format on the gps, now it stays connected, but none of the programs detect it anymore, so I'm unable to flash anything. I have a folder inside the gps called ".System", and 2 more folders inside there. "Diag", and "SQLite".

Garmin Express can see it, but when I hit the blue "Add Device" button, it greys out for a bit, does nothing, and the button becomes clickable again. But it doesn't actually add anything. No other program can detect it. It shows up in device manager as "Garmin dezl System USB Device" and "Garmin dezl Card USB Device". Is entering pre boot mode even possible with only these files?
