    Hi Butters,
I haven't identified the problem that caused the slow behavior of the Nav IV.
Format it once was enough to solve the problem. When I flashed the original firmware I didn't format again.
It created a Garmin folder with a GarminDevice file inside, and I recover the files with Garmin Express, and completed with the files that I had from another unit. ex gmapbmap etc
    Thanks again

Default Half Bricked Garmin Edge 705

    Hi all,

I have a half bricked Garmin Edge 705. My symptoms are:
Unit will switch on and find satellites, will 'record' a route while it is being ridden but will not save it to the unit. It can't 'see' any maps on either the unit or the SD card. It won't automatically connect to the PC when I connect it, I have to long press the power button, then it will connect.

Due to this, I'm having issues getting into pre-boot mode (long press lap/reset when connecting the device to the PC). I've made a 'new' rgn file with GarminCure3, using 3.10 firmware (unit 'claims' it is running 3.30 firmware) but can't get it loaded as I can't get into the pre boot mode.

What's my next thing to try please?

    Details are:
    1) Garmin Edge 705, FW 3.30, HWID 0625
    2) why and how - can't remember - it's been sat in a drawer for a long time.
    3) Symptoms as initial description above
    4) Yes, but not automatically. When I plug it in, it will power up and start searching for satellites. I then medium press the power button and I get the charging screen with the word GARMIN and the battery indicator. I then long press the power button and it connect to my PC and I can browse the empty file structure (formatted FAT32).
    5) I've tried (via EaseUs software and Windows utilities) deleting the partition and recreating it, formatting to FAT32, tried putting GUPDATE.GCD for 3.10 into the root folder, the Garmin folder and both places on SD card. I've tried copying my folders from a good working Edge 705 (I have 2 working and this non-working one).
    6) Garmin USB drivers installed, 2 other Edge 705 units and an Edge 305 connect fine.
    7) HWID is 0625 (from another unit as this broken one has no folders / files present after many formats)
    8) I've posted in one of the other threads already
    9) Can't reach pre boot mode
    10) NV backup?

    Thanks in advance,
    Phil

Thanks the link inside that link (ie from the Garmin website) is dead (your link is good), so I can't see what was proposed but I did Google 'Boot Block' but it didn't give me much to go on, so I'm still stuck. I've watched a few of the videos linked to boot block and also no joy there sadly.

Just Tested the link and it is working OK

Here is just a snip-it of the link:

I have upgraded with the 3.3 update for my 705 recently and my device is misbehaving. From about the time of the upgrade the openmaps map that I have on the microSD card does not load 90% of the time (there are no progress bars on the screen during startup and only the base map is available. Oddly, occasionally it does load. If that was the only problem I would roll back to 3.1 and see if it works ok.

HOWEVER, of far more concern... Over the last week I've not connected my device to my computer. Now I try and it is not recognised (the device simply turns on, it doesn't go to USB mode. I had changed nothing on my computer (but have sinced tried reinstalling the Garmin USB drivers and upgrading Garmin Communicator. I've even tried it on another computer, but it is not working so I can't even roll back the upgrade.

As I said, your link is working, the link within the linked website is not - this one:

If that does not work try the "Boot Block"

    @frankmun
That's good that you've now found it can attain preboot. Preboot mode is essential for fixing devices which are 'bricked' (due to a corrupt file onboard) to be able to load cure firmware. Cure fw allows Mass Storage Mode to be re-enabled, allowing for bad files to be removed.

Your next move is to make cure fw and load it in preboot, so read this thread to learn how to do that: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Hopefully your watch isn't one of the devices that can't use cure firmware.

Don't worry if the steps seem daunting, post back here if you need help in making and/or flashing the cure fw saying what you don't fully understand and what you've been able to do or not not do in the process. We'll assist you step by step if needed.
