    @bram1980,

    You did not explain what steps you did......... from the first post.

    Please do so that way everyone has a clear picture of what steps you have taken.......

    Use "Garmin Express" to update the firmware and anything else that needs updating or use the "Webupdater" from Garmin..

    Spoiler: Garmin Express

    OR

    Spoiler: Garmin Webupdater
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Leave the Garmin 50 on the PC and let it charge the unit up.
    If it is a battery problem then look to getting a new battery.

    Here is one of many places you can get a battery....

    Spoiler: Battery for Garmin Nuvi 30, 40, 40LM, 50, 50LM
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    There are enough YouTube videos on how to replace the battery if you need to do that.

    But make sure you do all the updates to the unit first......

    2) Why and how the device got bricked.: unknown due I bought it like this

    3) Symptoms: what's wrong in your device?:after power-on, i get the Garmin logo and the copyright notice text then it turns it self off.

    4) Does your pc sees your device ?: Yes briefly until it shuts down

    5) List all the procedures you already tried to unbrick it and their results and errors messages obtained.: with fastcure and Garmincure3 i can get to storagemode, i tried removing (after making a copy) the last changed files, mapfiles etc with no luck, tried update to firmware v 2.70 (NordicRino650_WebUpdater__270.gcd) made the rgn-file and it was uploaded to storage under different name as it should but nothing else happened it doesn´t start updating next time i turn it on. Maybee there is a corrupt file in storage but its hard to know which one..

    How to unbrick a nüvi - step by step guide

    @kaninkalle
    Provided there is no hardware fault, there is likely still a file onboard which is preventing the device booting. If you don't wish to go thru further 'trial & error' file removal to find the culprit then simply reformat it using only [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] with correct settings while it has Cure firmware loaded.

    About point 7 and the V2.70 firmware file you loaded: I don't quite understand what you've done but if it was placed in the device as GUPDATE.GCD it won't be used to update the device until it next boots fully. In any case, you don't want original fw loaded yet as only cure fw can re-enable Mass Storage Mode in a soft-bricked device by preventing files being loaded during the boot.

    About point 9: You clearly can reach preboot as you've loaded a cure fw RGN file.

    Hi Thanks for answering!

    point7, as a test i went through the updateprocedure to see if it would accept it, it did and as you said it was there in the storage as GUPDATE.GCD, i thought it might trigger something during bootstart if that file was there, but it didn't.

    I went through formating storage ok with the tool(with correct settings) but everything is still the same it dies after Garmin logo, and the fineprint copyright etc, never loads anything more just dies.

    Hardwarefault i guess, don't know what else i could try..maybee storagefiles from other gps but i don't know if that would help.

    If you mean that it is still powering itself off even with Cure firmware loaded then it's almost certainly a hardware fault. With cure fw it should just stall on the "Garmin" splash screen but with Mass Storage Mode enabled.

    Files from another unit won't help.

    Hi

    It don't die in cure-mode, only in "normal" mode.

    Normaly after a format of storage, on the next boot, does it rebuild/create the neccesary basic files/folders/settings in storage?

    Staying on the splash screen with cure firmware loaded means that it's 'stalled' in the boot process and that's expected because it's looking to load some essential files and can't find them, so therefore there's only been a partial boot but enough to allow MSM access.

    Once original fw is loaded after formatting and without any files/folders added many Garmin devices will completely boot and self-create a Garmin folder then write a fresh GarminDevice.xml file into it. The thing is that some Garmin devices won't boot if completely empty and need at least a Garmin folder manually created in the root, before original fw is loaded. Try doing that and see if it helps. If it still doesn't then load some additional 'known-good' files like Voices (see Point 3 in Note 2 of initial post of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) but take care such files are ok. Quite often just an empty Garmin folder is all you need for such a device to finish the boot and re-create the XML file.

    If after trying the above the Rino still shuts off it may be that the flash is indeed damaged. Although uncommon, if there's an essential region that cannot load during the boot process then a complete boot is impossible.

    If you ran GarminCure3.exe as Admin then drag and drop won't work to start Updater.exe so you must locate the RGN file in the specified folder and run it directly in Updater.exe from there.

    get it up, tested it, did not power up, might be problem with power cables, the batteri voltage is OK.
    Is there a way to check if it got power or not, firmware issue.
    The microsd card is missing also, ie no maps.
