Hi everyone,
i am new on this forum.
I have a 2006 US Goldwing with a 2009 US gps unit installed by the previous owner.
This guy solved in this expensive way the problem of map updates before the release of updated firmwares.
Anyway i am still disappointed with the capabilities of this system.
I think that we all are doing our personal research to solve different problems:
how the firmware manage the nt maps
how we can change the language
how we can use EU firmware on US machines
and so on...
We need to do all the work by ourself because we don't have any help from Honda or Garmin side.
My personal interest is to change one part of the firmware that is related to the warning messages on the screen.
In particular i am afraid with the message "Poor GPS Signal" popping up when the received gps signal goes down for a while.
I live in a mountain area with lot of tunnels and trees and i have this message on the screen most of the time.
Another need is to use the navi controls when the bike is moving.
I started my searches on the net and also had some mail exchange with carlinux. I am happy to meet him here also.
If i can help i had a look to the sys.bin that was on the original sd card (not cf card, my navi is 2009 US) with a simple hex editor.
Near to the end of the file there are all system messages like calculating, Poor gps signal, recalculating, lost gps signal etc. and also all the words the spelling voice uses like turn, continue, left, right, for, kilometers and so on.
It will be interesting to see if the 2.60 EU firmware has this words in english or not.
A big block of the software contains also third part software (GNU) with carachter sets etc.
I was unable for now to understand what the software do because i don't have any software for disassembling.
I had a look also to the gupdate.gcd ver. 4.60 US and 2.60 EU but is a different format so the hex editor can't help me.
I know that Fred H. in this link has rewritten some code but without too much luck.
