Thread: Transform a Nuvi 37xx in a Nuvi 34xx for dummies

Has anyone with LifeTime Map subscription tried to update the map on a flashed 3790 to 3490 device: the program ignores the process OR everything is OK and the program downloads the 3490 files...

Please if someone tried it to share some experience...

Here is a question about the level of map details shown.

The detail level on a 3790 is higher than on a 3490.

If you "convert" a 3790 into a 3490, does the detail level become less too, or does it remain at the same level as the 3790 had been before the conversion ?

After conversion device becomes 3490. So it functions like 3490.

I was hoping for the best of both worlds.

But now, I can make my 3790 become a 3490 and use the new Garmin Smartphone Link software.

Program downloads files necessary for 3490.

Did you tried it or only heard about it, because I am thinking to buy a LifeTime Map update card and I do not want to lose my money (don't say use a free update...)

Tried by myself. I'm using GarminLifetimeUpdater to update maps. I flashed my 3790 to 3490 and now I'm able to download all files for 3490 (map, JCV, SID Sqlite etc.). Program sees my Nuvi as 3490. I'm not sure if it will last forever, but now it works.

I can not get the voice command to work on my converted Nuvi. When I try to use the GarminLifetimeUpdater, the program sees my Nuvi as a 3790 and converting to a 3490 and will only download maps (CNNA) according to the 3790. I need the ASR files as the voice command now doesn't work. Would imagine I would also need the new map update for a 3490 for new JCV, 3d, etc files also?

False alarm...needed to set up "voice command" in apps, works like a charm now. A question though...When I use GarminLifetimeUpdater in the future which recognizes my Nuvi as a 3790, will all the new mapping, 3D and JCV files work on my converted 3490 properly?
