Duh....I had the wrong JCV file. I did 2 quick map upgrades to my 3760 - I must have missed the right JCV file when I did it the 2nd time for the 2014.10 maps. I seem to be messing up the simple things now, after getting through the 34xx upgrade relatively easy....

I really appreciate the help of this forum to do the upgrade. I don't miss having a 3597 at all now. And the interface between this and my wife's 2595 are now essentially the same...

One last thing.... I'm not sure whether I'm seeing the 3D topography with the upgrade. I have the 3D buildings showing fine. Is there a good route to check the 3D topography on?

I'm trying to flash my device from the 34xx firmware to the 37xx firmware (I have a 3790). I followed the guide exactly and used Updater to flash back the 37xx_450.rgn firmware. It was stuck at 100% and then gave me a program error. Now when I turn on my device, it only has no display but there is still backlight. I'm trying to flash it again but cannot put in pre-boot mode, I already tried pressing over the upper left OR above the G (I cannot see the Garmin logo here, so I'm just estimating) but the PC cannot detect it in pre-boot mode.

    What can I do?

Got it to work already. I've backread in this thread and the trick was to press over the G logo (for the 3790) just after the backlight appears and NEVER BEFORE it appears.

I think the original issue that caused my 3790 to being bricked is that I accidentally used a USB3 port instead of USB2.

Use the entire pad of your left thumb to cover the area both on and over the 'G' or where it should be. This is particularly valuable it you don't know whether your unit is flashed as a 34 or 37 or when there is no logo as you had. And you are right about waiting for the unit to come on before pressing. This is not the case with other devices where you hold the upper LH corner before turning on to access pre-boot.

Maybe, but i've not heard of that and it really does seem unlikely. USB3 ports are backwardly compatible with USB 1 & 2 devices, the same as USB 2 ports are backwardly compatible with USB 1 devices. More likely imo that something simply went wrong with the process the first time

If you have the NA DEM map loaded in your 3490 you will see that there is dem shading overlaying your detail map but just be sure you have it enabled in Map Layers. If you compare the 2595 and the 3490 at the same point on a map [preferably pick someplace rural] then you will see the difference at normal zoom. The 2595 will only display dem shading when zoomed right out and then it's the shading from the basemap which is showing.

Great work !! I have done this with my 3760 and it works. Thanks.
Now I will try to enable the extra options but is the 'ldr.bin' in the file 'convert37x34v.zip' usable with the newest firmware update (8.1)?

    Thanks.

    Better to use 8.1 ldr.bin
Its easy to get the 8.1 ldr.bin
Open gupdate.gcd (8.1) with RGNTOOL [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    Save boot.bin to computer.
Rename as ldr.bin. Now you have the new 8.1 ldr.bin

Open gupdate.gcd version 8.1 in RGN_Tool and save the boot.bin as Ldr.bin. Replace the older ldr.bin file with it.

Thanks, the garmin has accepted this.
But...the junction view is not working. (full screen or split screen)
I have tried both jvc files so the small and big one.

    What I have done:
Garmin 3760 EU flashed with nuvi34xx_GCDFile__760.gcd file
With garmin express updateted to 8.1
    updated with Convert37x34v.zip with 8.1 Ldr.bin
    JVC folder from .system deleted
mad MAP folder on SD card and insert CN NT 2014.20 EU and gmap3D.img
made JVC folder on sd card ( /Garmin/JVC )
Put in here the JVC files

Is there an idee how to get this working?

    Thanks.
    Br, John
