If you dont have Logo you can upgrade over SD.

I think Aek comment was ironic, coz anyone who can get Garmin logo or have a Nuvi starting somehow ,he can get preboot mode always.
I think this user hasnt set it to Mass Storage

If he dont install garmin USB drivers updater wont detect nuvi.

Garmin Usb drivers were not installed either by lifetimemapupdater or webupdater...So I downloaded and installed the garmin usb drivers. Thank you all for your replies. After upgrading to nuvi 34xx, I was able to update with webupdater all firmware stuff but not able to update maps with mapupdater. Is this due to missing GUPDATE.GCD in .system folder?

3790 at start is normal, Lifetime Updater and Mapupdater should work as usual-
GUPDATE.GCD doesnt matter-

What CN do you have before you convert 3790 to 3490?
If you go on mygarmin page if you dont have latest CN you will be prompted to download mapupdater and when you run it you can upgrade CN to the latest if you dont have last version installed.

Thank you for your reply. I have North America maps installed before the conversion. I still have the error upgrading to latest map but I am fine with the present maps of 2012.
