up until a few days i thought myself of being very computer savy,,,,aparently last 24 hrs i found out how dense i am....let's start with a a full non-vol backup? ..err how?
    let's move on..my nuvi HWID? a 4 digit nmber...duh...where is that one?..LDR bin? 140.bin?..alll those stuff.....preboot? isn't there any ..plain english tutorial??
like...open/file/ that ..click save while keeping finger pressed to "g"spot? (that gives it a whole new meaning) ..etc etc..like a stept by step instruction...as they have for instance when u ***** a software...???..I am too dense....ok i have unhiden the system file of my nuvi 3760...but ..do i have to save it on a sd card? can i not save it in my putter....??? what file from where exactly should i load in rgn tool...(not to mentrion i have no ideea what rgn means) afterwards, after patch, where do I save it?....do i have to flash my nuvi how exactly...?....there are a lot of confusion and no matter how many thereads i read it still seems i am very dense at all the steps....i don't ebven know how to find a HWID or what it si or what a region it is.....not to mention about the rest of the stuff...I agree being a Torontonian has it's downfalls....being dense is one of them....but that donation...i sureley can match.....to you initial sugestion....or,,,a bit more...just a bit less then deciding to pack my toy take it back to costco and getting a modded....3790 unit...(why the 3490 is better??? seems lower number after the 3 ,,,not higher....) ..oh well.....if anyone of you is willing to really explain in very small increments like for labrats that have an iq with very negative values???

That's in the post above yours, the link named 'Here's how by Caty'. It's post #337 of the thread 'Transform a Nuvi 37xx in a Nuvi 34xx for dummies': [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    let's move on..my nuvi HWID? a 4 digit nmber...duh...where is that one?
Lots of places, but here's one way: From 'Where To? / Map' screen, hold the upper RH corner (battery icon) for several seconds, on the screen that appears, tap 'Next' > 'Start Test' > 'More' > Inventory appears, your HWID is written in the first 3 entries, An example: 1st one is 'Boot BLK B1101-00 2.50 nuvi 3790 Boot Block Soft Pass'. The 4 figures '1101' is the HWID of the 3790 on my desk now. It's also in your GarminDevice.xml ......

..LDR bin? 140.bin?..alll those stuff.....preboot? isn't there any ..plain english tutorial??
Have a look also at the tuturial lolypop000 wrote in the link in this post: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. It's for someone with a 35xx but the principle's the same. Forget about preboot for now.

OK, I've confused you (well, mostly it was me). Forget most all that stuff, and just follow Caty's advice in Post #123 above if all you wanna do is go from 3760 to 3790. 'Coz really all you need to know to get 3790 features is in there.

Saving the Nuvi files is the same as any other if you've now got the nuvi's .system showing in Windows Explorer. Just copy & paste the nuvi contents to a backup folder on your PC.

The reasons to change to 34xx from 37xx fw may not mean all that much to you at the moment, but i'm gonna convert my just purchased 2nd hand 3790 to 3490. Best you decide yourself what you want to do. Do one or the other, either enable to 3790 or convert to 3490. But maybe keep it simple and just do the easy one first using roger's app as Caty suggested. Good luck canuck!

Yep. And a GIRL! LOL! I mean, if a girl from Italy and an old fart from Australia can do it, then a young buck from Canada (yes, even one from Toronto) will be able to do it as well. Bite at a time.
