When resetting, all information is lost. It only works by pressing the keys (- and power) at the same time. It also works in version 6.0. Since the menu does not work, it is not a reset (Select Settings> System> System information> Factory settings)

How is the hard reset done on a touchscreen device (7612xsv)? Thanks.
I'm not sure, but try to use the following procedure:
1. Power on the chartplotter
2. As soon as 'Garmin' appears, press and hold the Upper Left corner of the screen until the message 'Do you really want to erase all user settings?' appears
3. Choose 'Yes'
NOTE! Pre-save your user data (waypoints, routes, Auto Guidance paths, tracks, and boundaries) to an SD card since after such a reset all this data will be erased.
On a touchscreen GPSMAP chartplotter, try to perform the following procedure:
With the Device Off, Press the Power button to turn the device on. As soon as Garmin logo appears, release the Power button. Once the Warning Screen appears, don't press the "I Agree" button, quickly press and hold the Top-Left Corner of the screen until the message "Do you really want to erase all user settings?" appears. Choose "Yes".
Note: The first time, it may not be possible to perform all these manipulations on time. You may have to make several attempts.

Thanks for the information. I tried it this morning, but the machine booted normally. I then holding down the power and the left hand screen corner. After a short period of time, the message "Transferring to recovery area" and then "Recovery loader area ready". I tried pushing the various corners but was unable to make anything happen. Pushing the power button shut the machine down. Powering up normally showed nothing changed. I'll try some different combinations later.
The 'Recovery Loader' you encountered is how you do 'forced updates' of the software on the unit. Normal way of upgrading the software will not allow a version earlier than that in the unit to be installed. Using a forced updates with the recovery loader is how you can install an earlier version (i.e. do a rollback) of the software. You need to have that earlier version on an SD card (same process as that used for a regular update) and the do your power/screen hold to bring up the recovery loader.
Version 10 of the software for your unit has several enhancements, including the anti-piracy routines that prevent unlocked (non-genuine) Vision and other non-Garmin cards from working. The last version of the software without these 'enhancements' is here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
That depository has a very slow download speed for non-subscribers so be ready for the download to take quite a while. Make sure you hit the right download link since there is a lot of garbage there.

You can only roll back the device to echomapplusmodel.
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
Thanks, that sound encouraging! Turns out that holding the power button is all that is needed to enter that mode. I still have all of my previous updates so shouldn't have a problem. I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back on progress. Thank you all for your help!
