    .............
Only for model of the serie with BT support (i.e. 2445 or 2545 not work the ASR function) ........
I see nothing wrong with the info given by kenta which was in specific reply to Sly Bob who has a 2595 and was requesting ASR files for it. Perhaps adding 'for units supporting ASR' behind '..... also work on nuvi 24x5 25x5' would've made it more precise, but it's self-evident anyway i think. However, just because a 2xx5 has BT support doesn't mean it will have ASR function 'out of the box' either. i.e. 2415 has BT but no ASR.

To be more complete: As well as dezl 760, nuvi 3590 and 2x95 ASR2 is also used by capable models in nuvi series 2xx7/2xx8/2xx9, 3490 and 3597 and all RV/Camper/dezl models except dezl560. ASR1 is used by earlier units such as nuvi 8x5, 2x60, 3790 and nulink 2390. Both ASR1 & ASR2 files should be available for this EU-U map for respectively compatible models.

I am a little bit confused now.... According to this I, who own a Garmin Nüvi 2497, should use ASR2 (3490)???

But the ASR2-folder contains 11 files? On my GPS I only have 9 files (as are in the ASR1-folder)???

Are you absolutely sure about ASR2 for Garmin Nüvi 2497???

    Regards

Yup, 100% sure. Just try them. You probably have some voice-related files in there too, don't delete them. Remove only old map-specific files from earlier EU map, i.e. those with extensions of .asr & .srx only [backup first].

Can someone please tell me the difference between ASR and ASR2 files? The 11 files (ASR for 3490) have been placed in SD:\Garmin\ASR. But on accessing Voice Command the message "Voice Command support is not available for British English". I can see only a ru_ru.srd file in .System\ASR on the device. Do I need the "en_GB.srd" file? - Where do I get it from? Any advice on where I begin please.

    TIA

Run webupdater and you will have other .srd available for download.

    UPD:

If you wish, you can also download it here:

There the only info I needed. Why don't they update the speech recognition with GE?
At the end of the 2015.40 update, my 3790 stopped recognizing speech. Going through webupdater installed the extra files needed.
    Working like a charm now.
    Thanks.

The difference is that ASR1 are 'old-school', first introduced for 8xx nuvi series and used also for nuvi 2x60 and 3790. Later units like 34/35xx > use ASR2 technology which is less buggy and works better than ASR1. Language-related *srd files don't need to be changed with the map whereas *.asr/*srx files do.

Follow what Loly's said above. In explanation, you cannot use the British English Voice Command without both an appropriate english TTS *.vpm voice file in Voice folder and en_GB.srd in ASR folder and the full EU map. You may also need to set the unit to UK locale.

See here for more info: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Yes, it won't work without it as said. If that's all you need it's attached here:

Ok, Thanks aren't allowed, so I'm gonna pat Catymag, lolypop000 and Neil on the back and ruffle your hair. Managed to get Voice Command working by simply selecting a few language options on Garmin Express and downloading+Installing. Seems to have fixed the problem. Hitting Voice Command app brings up the Voice Command options screen. I wouldn't have been able to work the file associations/dependencies as explained by Neil for quite some time, so that was a great heads up Neil.

    I'm seeing G2S files for 37xx in the posts but is G2S applicable to 3490? - There's nothing in 3490's GarminDevice.xml.

What is the 'ExtData' folder for?

    TIA

From: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Ext - Ext Data folder - stores 006-D0952-01.bin, 006-D0952-02.bin, 006-D0952-03.bin, 006-D0952-04.bin, 006-D0952-05.bin, 006-D0952-06.bin, 006-D0952-07.bin, 006-D0952-08.bin, 006-D0952-09.bin, 006-D0952-10.bin files which contains special font for not alphabet languages likes Herbew, Thai, Arabic, Vietnamese.
ExtData folder - also stores for some device with MTK chipset files ARC.BIN, BEE.BIN, 006-D1221-00.bin. 006-D1221-00.bin + GPS Chipset Type M HotFix Data software which updates by webupdater and ARC.BIN & BEE.BIN files which store current info for GPS software metioned above.
    Look better at:
    <Path>.System/G2S</Path>
    <FileName>D2329100A.G2S</FileName>
    l9ebnsm
You have to navigate to get to the good.
