Interestingly, i only heard about this 'disagreement' recently. It's actually the International Hydrographic Organization and the Australian Hydrographic Service who disagree on the extent of the Bight i believe:

The IHO has 82 member countries including of course AU and the US, is based in Monaco and annoyingly it's President is an Australian who you'd think would've sorted 'em out on this.
The Encyclopædia Britannica seems to agreed with the Australian version [so they bl**dy should, it's our goddam Bight so get over it world, yanks included!]:
The more generally accepted boundaries are from Cape Pasley, Western Australia, to Cape Carnot, South Australia

And Cape Carnot is just to the West of Spencer Gulf which therefore is not included by our definition of what constitutes the Bight as thatguy82b imo correctly notes.

As to the IHO's concept of the Bight extending as far down as far the SW corner of Tassie, that's just silly i reckon because it's actually a fair chunk of the Southern Ocean fergoodnessake. Green is right, red is wrong imo.
