What model GPS are you using? Some models are not capable of using map files larger than 2 GB.
I tested the 4-maps-united-file in a GPSMAP 64st. Map did not show up in the maplist in the GPS. However: I was able to find and open the map in BaseCamp when connecting the GPS to my PC.
