You may need to have a sat fix to use all the map features. If you can see small roads, browse the map and navigate normally in Simulation Mode then it's working.
PS: If you're unable to see the map in BaseCamp it may only mean that the img file has been generated from a gmap folder and the MS Flag left as '1'. Changing it to '0' [zero] using GMapTool or ImgTool will allow the img to be seen and used in BC.
