Get route from Russia (any point) to Nokia (city in Finland)! Scroll to the end of the route in list of maneuver (tap a top bar in navigation mode) and you would see 2-3 JCV in any case.

For checking if JCV is working on your nuvi.
Simulate a route that enters and exits motorway.
If you simulate a route from Lisbon, Portugal to Barcelona,Spain with this map you will see many JCV Pictures if it's working properly.
    Please supply more info.
What Nuvi are you using. ?
Have you loaded complete Mapset ?

    Dumbo questions:

    1) I have a regional image downloaded of the UK from pg 1 of this thread as well as the 3D image. But when I try enable 3D on my Garmin Oregon 450 it tells me there is not enough altitude info on the map.
Is there another file I need for altitude info or is this map 2D only?

    2) I have loaded a Mapsource route from a to b and downloaded it to my to my gps but when I try and activate the route my gps complains that there is no routeable info on the map!
My last fix position was in Japan and have removed the Japan maps. Is this the problem or are these Euro NT maps not routeable?

Thanks guys and sorry for my ignorance!

Euro NT Maps are 100% Routable.
But you will not be able to route from Japan to Europe.
Use the Simulator set location to London Route to Birmingham and it should work.

Thanks dasilvarsa, (or should I say baie dankie?) while I can put the gps into "demo" mode, I can't find how to reposition it. The Oregon software is very unintuitive. I was just very surprised to see the routes I have built in Mapsource show only point to point on the gps. Surely the route should display correctly no matter what my current position is?! Anyway, I have Sygic Aura on my Samsung phone and that software is pretty awesome. I will try the Garmin when I get to the UK but it is rather frustrating not to be able to rely on it before I leave on my trip.

Almost as frustrating as this dumb web forum that keeps telling me I need to register every five minutes even though I am logged on. Really dumb!

    Thanks for your advice.

Still no idea about the 3D data though?

Read tutorial for beginners on the first:
http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Navigation+and+Routes#FAQ-NR3.) Can I simulate driving a route on my Oregon?

There is no any DEM data for 3D mode on this maps. I think there is no any DEM data for 3D on Gmapdem.img too. Only TOPO series maps contains detailed DEM data for 3D mode on hendhelder.

Beginners tutorial explains exactly what I have been doing.
Did all that but it does not work!

I select a waypoint in Europe but when I select Go I immediately get an error message:
"Route Calculation Error: Maps do not have routable roads in this area".
The GPS does not give me the option to reposition. Really dumb.
I mean I can't have routable roads for the whole planet loaded.
At least on my old dumb Garmin I could manually set the location but this piece of *^%$#% is very annoying!

Well I eventually got it into Automotive test by selecting Recreational! I know, right!~ Unbelievable stupidity! Can't believe some programmer actually got paid to program something this bad!
Anyway the test function is basically useless because you can only test point to point. You can't (or at least I can't find out how to) test a downloaded Route. Not too clever. Thank goodness for Sygic!

Anyway, thanks for your help guys. I still just can't get over just how bad the software really is!

Try checking the 'Remember Me' box before you log in. That keeps you logged in until you select 'Log out'. Really .....

Gmap3d.img is for 3dBuildings only works on Nuvi's that support 3dBuildings
    Gmapdem.img has altitude data.

Have a look here for info about files [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

To set Nuvi to another location, place the device in simulation mode, Whereto (find the place you want to be) and then Set Location button should appear.
