If you run unlock mapset.exe in the gmap folder it will unlock the entire map for MS and BC ,and also the image sent to the unit (or a drive if using patched versions) will be fully unlocked (i.e. not show as unauthenticated either)

@Neil: That is your humble opinion, works maybe in DownUnder, but not here in the "Northern Hemisphere"...see below, working MS and still locked BC, screenshots taken on 17.09.2012 13.00 LMT, according "One Picture is Worth a Thousand Words":
