Try it yourself, easy way use total commander, and on file use F3 to view what is inside file. On file D3406050A.SID has all zero

For the uninitiated, Magnet links effectively decentralize torrent downloads. Magnet links can be created by anyone having the file in question, do not require a central host to store the link and do not require a server to track data transfers between clients. Pirate Bay made the switch wholesale some time ago, in part because they were raided simply for having the .torrent links on their servers and wanted to avoid that issue.

Magnet links however do not mean downloading torrents are safer than before. IP addresses can still be seen in download clients, and unscrupulous corporations such as the RIAA and MPAA will use that information to prosecute. Many sites now recommend using a specialized proxy for downloads to mask the IP. That alone should be enough to recommend using sites like Zippyshare when possible.

It's not a question of being comfortable with the torrents. I can see how one could come to that erroneous conclusion though. With torrents unlike with the filesharing sites that is extensively used here, you have to obtain each individual file, wait, and wait a very long time to download that one file. There is a limit to how often you can download any file from their site. You then have to [rinse] and repeat the process until you obtain every single file that is required. It is a very tedious and time consuming process limited by the filesharing sites that is is hosting the files. This is not the case with torrents. You find what you want, all the files that are needed are encapsulated in that torrent. No fuss, no mess. It's simple, and effective.

As far as security goes, many third party apps like Peerblock will help prevent your info from being released and captured by the RIAA and MPAA. if one wants complete anonymity, then we all should invest in a usenet (binary) service where all files would be uploaded as binaries to usenet groups where the speeds would be phenomenal and retention period can exceed over 2 years. For maps, that would be sufficient and I definitely would invest in that service which could cost as little as $6 USD a month. In fact, that's probably the best way to go because sites like megaupload and filesonic (and soon Zippyshare) will be subject to crakcdowns.

Unzip "1345441349864.zip" preferably with 7Zip to get gmappsupp.img. I forgot to reset the MS flag before uploading. If you want to see it in BaseCamp, reset the flag from 1 to 0 using GMapTool. Check 'Set Version in Header' under 'Write' tab, and fill in the Ms field as '0'. Map tested and working in a 1390.

Well i don't agree with that about all filesharing sites. Also if you use JDownloader or similar for the slower more painful 'free' sites (the ones that want to sell you a premium account, you all know the ones i mean), it can happen in a very easy albeit drawn out fashion, totally hands off with no 'rinse & repeat'. The better ones like ZippyShare and AnonFiles allow parallel downloads and are very quick and will only be beaten in speed by heavily seeded torrents (which are the very ones that tend to get the adverse attention as mentioned by Strephon). But safety is more important to me than speed. I am not a torrent hater. I just tend not to use them even thru an anonymous proxy if another direct safe speedy source is available. The people who post torrents here are just as valuable as the ones who post directly to filesharing sites and I was really just stating a personal preference and perhaps too strongly, although I really do think it's a dangerous practice to dl torrents if you are using your own ip address.

Just before posting this I noticed Caty's Post #38 in regard to discussion about torrents being OT so I think we should not continue it here as it is OT and I do apologise for starting it (it usually is me that cocks-up in the first place as both Caty & Strephon know. But as proof i don't hate torrents, my first post about this was to 'tap' jensb because i thought his torrent was going unseeded and i wanted to get it going for the 'torrent lovers'.
