Hi there,
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me regarding this problem. I've been trying to install SCG Route 2.40NT on a Garmin Nuvi 680, through both Mac and PC, to no avail. In either instance the Garmin unit reports "Can't Unlock Maps," even though the map appears unlocked in both MapSource and RoadTrip.
I tried installing via PC by two different methods:
PC method 1:
I installed MapSource 6.16.3 and patched the EXE as instructed.
Installed scg.exe, and then used the MapSource Unlocker 2.1 (in the /Family_929 folder) to unlock the map.
I ran MapSource; the map appeared unlocked in the software, but still remains locked inside the Nuvi 680. I can tell the difference between unlocked and locked because the map will ask me to unlock it in the software if I do not run the Unlocker 2.1 (I tried this out of desparation).
After having fiddled with PC method #1 above, I moved on to #2:
I deleted everything and started with a fresh install of MapSource. Then, I downloaded the .gmap file and put it in the appropriate folder for my Win7 machine(C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps). It did not show up on MapSource at all, so I abandoned the PC and took out my Mac.
Mac:
Installed RoadTrip and MapInstall per the instructions. Downloaded and double-clicked the .gmap file. It asked me if it wants to be loaded, I said Yes, and it showed up in RoadTrip. Then I used MapInstall to install the maps, maps went into Garmin, and everything looked good. But when I turned on the Gamin unit, it gave me the same "Can't Unlock" error message.
I was eventually able to install SCG Route 2.30NT using the same PC procedure outlined above, but I still couldn't install 2.3 via Mac. For the Mac, I'd load the .gmap file to Road Trip, but it wouldn't show up in RoadTrip -- only the previously-loaded 2.40NT version would show up. I tried deleting the Garmin software from the Mac and reinstalling it -- and then trying to reinstall the 2.3NT version -- but the 2.4NT version was still present. Weird.
Final Note: I have no idea how much of a difference 2.3 vs 2.4 is supposed to make. I'm totally fine with having *some* maps loaded as opposed to none, so I'll be ok if this isn't solved. Any idea on that front? Is 2.4 really that much better that I should keep on trying to load it (I'm n00b, so I have no idea)?
Any advice will be appreciated.
