I tried copying and pasting the file and renaming it but again there seems to be no change. I turn on my garmin and it automatically displays the US map. I don't even see an option anywhere to select another map (granted, I only have had it for a day but I looked).

And there is still no "map" folder in the system folder which several people mentioned. And can I just copy and paste? Some google searches told me I need to download something called GarminMapUpdateX.exe or something called Mapsource or IMG2GPS or Mapinstall. But I didn't see that mentioned here. Just tried img2gps and had no luck. I then tried Mapinstall but the installation aborted when it couldn't find any previous version on my computer.

SUM files are just check-sum data calculated when the unit uses the diagnostics mode.

The normal map IMG files to use:
    • gmapoem.img - Mostly for OEM data with customized POIs for the OEM reseller
    • gmapbmap.img - Basemap
    • gmapprom.img - Preinstalled map
    • gmapprom1.img - Second preinstalled map
    • gmapsupp.img - Supplementary map
    • gmapsup2.img - Second supplementary map
    • gmaptz.img - Time zones
    • gmap3d.img - 3D buildings primary map (only compatible units)
    • gmap3d1.img - 3D buildings secondary map (only compatible units)
I just tried renaming it to both of those names as well and again I notice no change. How will I know if it is working? I assume as soon as I turn it on, it will prompt me to select a map?

You have to navigate to get to the good.

    Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600

Thanks so much! That did the trick - I had to change the name but following those directions I was able to select the Israel maps.

Thanks to all who helped!! I really appreciate it. One last question... did anyone successfully get the Hebrew fonts installed? I was able to change to Hebrew (it wasn't listed under the "H"s but was actually listed at the end of the list IN the hebrew language.

But while the keyboard and headers are all in Hebrew, the cities themselves are still in English. So when you type in any city in hebrew, it won't be able to find it.

If you need it in hebrew ,I think ,you must download the file in the first link
but this will need a font update from Garmin available for Nuvi 7xx and 1xxx series-
and read all the thread, there are some instructions about it

I have a nuvi 1300, and I bought an SD card version of the 2010.10 City Navigator® Israel NT. When I put the card in the slot, it is not recognized by my nuvi. I updated the Hebrew language fonts, and they seem to be working fine. How can I get my SD card activated? Thanks. Elliot

Finally in Israel and I will test the new maps shortly. But for some reasons, all the points of interest are blank, saying none are found. Is this an error? Does anyone know how to fix it? I'd feel more comfortable knowing that I could quickly find gas, hospitals, or the police in an emergency. Thanks.

Update: Never mind - the POIs kicked in once I was outdoors and the satellites were found.

Isn't this a case for Garmin when you acquired the map legally?
When its a preprogrammed map, then just put it in your SD-Slot, its already activated

I have this working on my 1350T. Directions work fine. Spoken street names are mispronounced in English (duh) and nonexistent when the unit is switched to Hebrew text. Would anybody happen to have the voice files from a Garmin unit actually sold in Israel? TIA.
