Try this procedure
Drag the RGN up the updater.exe. (This should open the program). At this point select USB "device." (Do not plug the GPS into your computer)

Place the GPS in pre-boot mode:
Turn on the GPS and after put your finger on the battery icon to enter the diagnostic mode. Then click Exit.
When you restart the gps, put your finger on the top left corner.
Once the word appears written system in green above the logo of Garmin, connect the USB cable to your computer. Your device should appear in the list of Devices. (Connect system disappear before the word)
Once listed, click OK.
After giving the OK on the Updater, wait until the end of its work, when it will reset itself and will give the message of success in the program. Dont disconnect the unit or you'll kill it.

simplest steps: download Fast IMG unlocker , unrar, drag&drop the gmap3d.img in FIU icon, wait some seconds, copy it in your unit

Where can I get the gmap3d.img? I have one BUT when I use Gmap and split it for use in Mapsource it has an error. The error is:

Gmap is a folder that contains the Mapsource standalone installation , it doesnt contain the gmap3d.img, you must download it from here

3d building map is the same in the latest CNE. 3d buildings are visible just in gps not in MS.

If you have the Gmap folder you dont need GmapTool.
To install the map in Mapsource copy the Gmap folder in
(in XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps) or
(in Vista, Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps)
