"No updates available" message usually means you've either used the incorrect HWID in the RGN file's naming or maybe used the correct naming for the firmware it's made from but that naming doesn't align with the actual HWID of the device.

I think i mentioned earlier that the nuvi 25x9 series has 2 different hardware versions using 2 HWIDs, 1758 and 1947 the latter being the one with "C4" chip. They use different firmware and are not cross-flashable.

Best we confirm you have these things right before you do anything else, so stop any further flashing attempts until the HWID is confirmed. Using the wrong fw named the same as the device's HWID will brick it totally (potentially permanently hard-brick vs present temporary soft-brick). I want you to use a program called G7ToWin which works in preboot to show the device's actual HWID, then report back before proceeding. The full instructions and download links for both 32 and 64 bit versions are [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Hi Butters, only partial luck this time. I can get the nuvi to talk with updater exe. Message says that 8.8 alreasdy installed, do you want to reinstall. I press ok, it initialises then stops at 0%. Error message says Garmin application failed, contact Garmin support. Do you have anymore advice please. Thanks.

Remind me again what it's doing when you try to boot it normally, i recall initially it was white-screening after "Loading Maps" showed then bootlooping. Is it still doing that or has it changed after your flashing attempts? (Sorry, can't be bothered going back over the somewhat time-distanced posts and i've forgotten if you did say something different later ....
I've lost a few brain cells maybe

Hi Butters, I can confirm the HWID is 1758. Tried with another copy of the gcd file, made new rgn file, and still getting the ' Garmin Application Failed ' error message. Thanks

Yes when I power on the unit it goes to loading maps message then followed by a white screen. The unit is unresponsive to pressing the screen. So no option to reset or do anything. On the odd ocassion if I hold the power on/off button a message will say its switching off. But thats it, it just will keep cycling between loading maps, white screen, loading maps ..... Thanks Butters

Flashing attempt has made no difference since I dont think anything was actually sent to the nuvi. The progress always said 0% after initialising.

So it's not actually 'bootlooping', as in powering itself off and attempting to restart by itself? You have to force it off, or it stays stuck cycling between loading maps and the white screen?

    No change. Still looping

PS: Sorry Butters, it is still switching on and off itself, doing the map loading, white screen, swith off, loading map, white screen etc ... If I hold the power button for several seconds it will compltely switch off. The next time I press the power button to switch back on, it goes into the perpetual sequence again....

There's a reason for me defining 'bootlooping' (unilaterally powering off and back on) as compared to cycling endlessly within the boot process. They can be from quite different causes and initially i thought you meant the first not the second although both require the power button to be held down for up to 30 seconds to force it off completely.

I think it's fixable and the problem is a faulty file onboard, most likely a recently added detail map causing the cycling. The more recent devices have notoriously short preboot mode periods and possibly you just aren't moving quite quick enough to start updater.exe in time and the device drops preboot before the flash is established, look again at the tips in (1) of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and follow them precisely. Be persistent, it might take dozens of attempts to catch the right moment for a flash to initiate and then successfully complete.

Thanks again Butters. I know Im getting closer. The fact that I can get to the ' initialising ' part means its nearly there and details have been read from the unit, so Im getting into pre boot ok to get this far ? So the download is just about to start on the progress bar, again shows a positive ... then error .... 'Garmin application failed' pops up with no progress on the bar. Ill keep on trying as you suggest. Thank you for your patience. Ill read again all your info too.
