They are identical devices as far as hardware is concerned. Your 'problem' only relates to map files etc. as i already explained in Post #4. If you want to fully understand please carefully read the initial post in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and the Garmin article linked there and below:

Please note that Garmin in that article and its embedded Video is referring to a device which already has an Lifetime Map (LM) entitlement for an ENTIRE continent but which might be missing some files (reduced map data was loaded, missing language or voice files etc.). Importantly they do not disclose that limited area LM devices, such as yours with only Southern European map entitlement, will not be offered additional files via GarminExpress even if you buy 'one-off' single-version mapping for the rest of EU. You would need to buy an LM subscription for all EU to get all required additional files from GarminExpress. All their references in the article and vid are to the whole of NA (all of US & Canada), however the exact same problem as experienced by a device loaded with maps for only part of NA, say Canada or Mexico for instance, as is what's experienced by your regional device with only Southern Europe map entitlement. That's the same limitation of additional file downloads as experienced for purchased 'one-off' maps applies as if you were to (i) patch the device firmware and (ii) load an unlocked EU map version (because some required ASR files are MAP VERSION specific, and you cannot fool or coax Garmin's server into supplying them without an LM entitlement for the rest of Europe).

In short, the only permanent and hassle-free solution ongoing is to buy an ALL EU Lifetime Map subscription for your DS61. Otherwise, periodically you'll have to deal with sourcing and manually loading the individual necessary files for each new map version along with unlocked maps teamed with patched firmware from other sites, i.e. not from Garmin, nor here for that matter.
