Hi,
Bought a drivesmart 61 LMT-S but seems to be a regional version (southern europe),
and so do not have the advanced voice control features like: "find place" or "find adress" vocal orders (only brightness adjustment, sound, categories, ...).
I have seen on the forum some dudes successfully unlock features on some nuvii model (tts and other features),
and so wonder if could be the same with my this drivesmart model.
Thanks for info
ps: at the moment I have tried to copy ASR folder in my gps but this did not show extra voice orders I was hopping for, so think about a firmware restriction like the nuvii

I have the 61 and no matter what regional version you have this model has always had "voice command".
Garmin has had voice command built in Nuvis and DriveSmarts for some time now.
The minute the DriverSmart loads a window come down on the screen asking you the "voice command" you want go give it.
If you let it and do nothing it will go away.
You can bring it back by saying "Voice Command" and it will talk to you back asking you what is your command.
No you will run into problems if you have the DriveSmart in English and you are in Spain.
The message will come back both as voice and a message on the screen.
This feature is not available for Spain in British English
If you are in Spain your Garmin has to be in Spanish and you know how to speak in Spanish correctly it will work.
So "voice commands" that will work in English are:
Example:
"Go Home"
"Favourites"
"History"
"Category"
"Find Place" will not work as an example using English in a EU Country.
There is no patch for this it tells me you did something to the 61 that the voice command function is not working.
As for patching to use other maps I will not go into that on this forum.
There are other forums that go into details on how to do that.
....
I just got back from Spain and used it as an example.
Now I am in Belgium where there is both Dutch and French spoken.
It was just showing the type of problems you can run into if you use English as your setup in Germin and you are in a EU country.
Were a person is from in the EU will still have the same problem if this user has his DriveSmart in French and goes to another EU country the same problem will happen.
You can not use "Voice Command" in French and you are in as an example Spain it will not work except for the items I have listed.
@clavadys
Read this thread [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (Don't be put off by "American English" in the thread title, it's the same problem regardless of Language used. Read the first post there thoroughly). In brief, you need to have the full EU mapping for Voice Command to work, converting the device won't change that requirement. You may simply put the rest of EU on a microSD rather than on the internal device memory with EU South however make sure you use the same type (NTU in your case) and same map version.
However unless you buy the official maps from Garmin legally, ASR still won't work even with the correct additional ASR & SRD files sourced and loaded appropriately. That's because your DS61 (HWID 2588) has protected firmware with strong MSV (Map Signature Verification). Therefore the use of "unofficial" (i.e. unlocked) maps will trigger an onscreen message "Maps are corrupt and cannot be used".
We cannot help you with patching the firmware here because that's against forum rules now (being in breach of Garmin's EULA). Google around for "Universal Firmware Patcher" if you want to go down that path. If you do buy the maps legally, Garmin still won't give you any additional ancillary files and that includes the ASR/SRD files. You'll have to find them elsewhere too if you don't have what you need already supplied with the EU Sth mapping.
Thanks all for your help,
yes, voice commands are working, but there are no all voice orders, only these ones because regional gps (southern europe) :
Spoiler: SMALL PIC
Furthermore I tried once the firmware patcher for hwid2588, but it was unlocking only map, and did not upgrade to the extended voice control.
-> but I must try again, because I did not put the asr files the last time, so maybe ...
in the posts you indicate they are speaking about some other files like srd and srx I will look if I can find them
edit: in a post I have read that ASR files are specific to a device, so probably in addition I have bad ones, not the good ones for my device
yes you are right, not sure that the southern europe drivesmart 61 SE LMT-S has the same hardware capabilities than the full Europe model drivesmart 61 LMT-S (without SE)
Indeed i don't say "voice command" neither "find place", my examples was for other people to understand, sorry if it have made the contrary
in fact in my country corresponding commands are "commande vocale" and "rechercher lieu" (feature missing in my gps)
They are identical devices as far as hardware is concerned. Your 'problem' only relates to map files etc. as i already explained in Post #4. If you want to fully understand please carefully read the initial post in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and the Garmin article linked there and below:
Please note that Garmin in that article and its embedded Video is referring to a device which already has an Lifetime Map (LM) entitlement for an ENTIRE continent but which might be missing some files (reduced map data was loaded, missing language or voice files etc.). Importantly they do not disclose that limited area LM devices, such as yours with only Southern European map entitlement, will not be offered additional files via GarminExpress even if you buy 'one-off' single-version mapping for the rest of EU. You would need to buy an LM subscription for all EU to get all required additional files from GarminExpress. All their references in the article and vid are to the whole of NA (all of US & Canada), however the exact same problem as experienced by a device loaded with maps for only part of NA, say Canada or Mexico for instance, as is what's experienced by your regional device with only Southern Europe map entitlement. That's the same limitation of additional file downloads as experienced for purchased 'one-off' maps applies as if you were to (i) patch the device firmware and (ii) load an unlocked EU map version (because some required ASR files are MAP VERSION specific, and you cannot fool or coax Garmin's server into supplying them without an LM entitlement for the rest of Europe).Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
In short, the only permanent and hassle-free solution ongoing is to buy an ALL EU Lifetime Map subscription for your DS61. Otherwise, periodically you'll have to deal with sourcing and manually loading the individual necessary files for each new map version along with unlocked maps teamed with patched firmware from other sites, i.e. not from Garmin, nor here for that matter.
After you have downloaded all the voices you want.
Please note that only some voices will work with "Voice Command".
They will all have this message under them.
"Garmin Real Directions"
Examples:
British English-Serena
Francais Europeen-Virginie
Nederlands-Claire
If you try to use any other ones you will get a message on the screen.
So pay attention to the voice you pick with "Garmin Real Directions"
Also please note the "Garmin Real Directions" might be said a different way in other languages.

Yes have read a lot from few days to understand how it works, and did not know you are on other forums so I try to ask on another one too sorry,
as you said it is a device restriction there is no ASR folder at all.
Now I have understood that it is garminexpress/webupdater that install ASR files,
but I have realized that the asr folder I got from another place is missing some files (srd files), so not good yet.
By the way I placed the other map part on the sd like you proposed and it is well recognized (europe north all).
Last thing I tried is to add ASR manually in the garmindevice.xml file for garmin express to download speech recognition files in my device but seems not working.

You will find that folder in .system folder on the 61.
See screen shot below.
It is a hidden folder that you have to give access to with your explorer to see.
