    Default Nuvi 3598

Today my Sat Nav gave me a little trouble. Whilst navigating the screen froze, in fact the voice commands etc also froze. After turning on and off it seemed to be ok but then the map disappeared and left an icon. It says its up to date with no updates available. Software 4.60

Missed my turning and had to revert to google maps on the phone!

    Any ideas please?

    Perform a hard reset:
To perform a master reset on a nuvi 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device, hold the device horizontally and follow the steps below:

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites you can find instructions to do so here.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
1.Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power◦To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device

    2.Power on the device
3.When the first copyright screen appears press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
4.Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
5.Touch Yes◦If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right

The device will now be reset. Follow the on-screen prompts then place the device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

1Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.

You have to navigate to get to the good.

Done the hard reset and it seemed ok. Screen froze/ turned Gray after navigating for a good 10 minutes. The maps(Europe and UK) are on a 16gb micro SD card. Ideas please or do I take it back?

It seems a common nuvi 3598 problem: contact Garmin support:

Try a clear nonvol, it's a bit more comprehensive. On map page tap the Speed field then hold the centre of the Speedometer for several seconds to take you to the hidden 'Diagnostics Page'. Tap 'Developer Info' and scroll down to 'Nonvol Statistics' and tap that. Press the menu symbol [3 bars] in the top LH corner then follow the prompts. This will also reset it to it's 'as new' original settings like a hard reset [master reset] so back up favourites beforehand if you wish.

Resurrecting an old thread! Just tired updating the sat nav with Garmin Express and it goes all the way though the update then comes up with an error code. On turning the unit on its a basic map and navigation is not possible as "Map data is not available". I tired a hard restore but this didn't fix it. Do you think ints down to the update been too large and not enough free space on the micro SD?

What does the error code literally say?

16GB is more than enough space for the entire European map, including any ancillary files. If Garmin Express can not find enough free storage space, it will tell you before starting the download.

When you run Mapupdater, at the second step it sends you to Garmin website (my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm?unitId=38........)
If you are registered (you and your 3598) you can see your 3598 and you are asked to manage your maps with Garmin Express.
    So no use for Mapupdater....

    Help me to understand you...
You finished the update with Garmin and you got an error code, yes or no?
You turned on your 3598 and you could see the CN Europe map on your map screen and myMaps list, yes or no?
You tried to find a destination using Where to and you got the message "Map data is not available".
If your main map file on your 3598 (or card) is not corrupted (Gmapprom.img --> 3.88 Gb) then preform a Clear Nonvol as in post #4
If your map file is OK, when you disconnect and turn on your device after a map update, the device reads the map and loads some info on the Nonvol memory (that you cannot access), so during this "reading", if something goes wrong, you'll get the message "Map data is not available".
You cannot fix this by deleting and copying again a fresh and uncorrupted copy of the map, because the bad info is already in the Nonvol memory.
You cannot fix this by copying a different map but with the same file name (the bad info has the mapID).

Try and find your Gampprom.img, on the device or on the card and check if it is OK
If it's not OK, then backup your card, format it (FAT32) and do the update again AND after you turn on your 3598, preform a Clear Nonvol.

If something goes wrong during the Garmin Express update, DO NOT unplug your device, just close GE and run it again.
If you unplug your device and turn it on after a GE problem, your device is going to read probably corrupted files (thanks to Santosan)

Yes finished update and got the error code

on checking mymaps there is Europe DEM
