Just for my understanding... did you download, install and run the application MapUpdater?
Can you confirm that there is actually a Lifetime Map update subscription linked to your nüvi 3598, usually indicated by the letters 'LM' behind the model number, eg nüvi 3598LM?
I see that the error message you posted in post #13 contains the unit-ID of your device. For privacy reasons, I have replaced it by crosses.

When you run Mapupdater, at the second step it sends you to Garmin website (my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm?unitId=38........)
If you are registered (you and your 3598) you can see your 3598 and you are asked to manage your maps with Garmin Express.
So no use for Mapupdater....
Help me to understand you...
You finished the update with Garmin and you got an error code, yes or no?
You turned on your 3598 and you could see the CN Europe map on your map screen and myMaps list, yes or no?
You tried to find a destination using Where to and you got the message "Map data is not available".
If your main map file on your 3598 (or card) is not corrupted (Gmapprom.img --> 3.88 Gb) then preform a Clear Nonvol as in post #4
If your map file is OK, when you disconnect and turn on your device after a map update, the device reads the map and loads some info on the Nonvol memory (that you cannot access), so during this "reading", if something goes wrong, you'll get the message "Map data is not available".
You cannot fix this by deleting and copying again a fresh and uncorrupted copy of the map, because the bad info is already in the Nonvol memory.
You cannot fix this by copying a different map but with the same file name (the bad info has the mapID).
Try and find your Gampprom.img, on the device or on the card and check if it is OK
If it's not OK, then backup your card, format it (FAT32) and do the update again AND after you turn on your 3598, preform a Clear Nonvol.
If something goes wrong during the Garmin Express update, DO NOT unplug your device, just close GE and run it again.
If you unplug your device and turn it on after a GE problem, your device is going to read probably corrupted files (thanks to Santosan)
