The usual cause is an error in the map. This has happened to me in several places. What will happen is there is a missing left turn option for example. The gps does not see the available option along the obvious route and the 2nd best sucks. Once you pass the error manually all is well.

This is a major highway (motorway) that's been established for over 10 years. As soon as we left the roundabout on the flyover it corrected - I can't believe the map is wrong.

It's often happening, in France we crossed a 500 year old bridge that the satnav didn't want to use - saving 15 minutes. I think it's the program not the data.
