Certainly you should hard reset it it, You'll lose favourites like recent history and home location, but that's no big deal. Seeing you can access the Diagnostics Page>Developer Info, go to Nonvol Statistics and press the menu bars in the top LH corner then Clear Nonvol. It's even more comprehensive than a hard reset. Resetting a strangely acting unit is the best first-aid/immediate action. It should be done after curing in any case, and certainly before even trying a cure fw if the unit can boot like yours. I routinely clear nv or hard reset any unit before and after loading any fw.

The unit will start without a basemap and not complain but may not work properly in real use. The basemap is named gmapbmap.img and it's stored in the unit's .System folder.
