You must upload this file back to GPS with any name but not current.gpx. temp.gpx for example. After you will reload GPS all new waypoints would be added but no changes would be doing with old data. You can delete not used old data from menu of device after upload new data or clear all data under service menu before uploading changed data.

New gps same colorado or montana have another data structure and working algorithm. You can change data directly in device with mapsource like you do with your files on PC in Office application for example.
