In any case you can use Mapsource or Basecamp to open waypoints directly. Go to open file, select GPX extension, and choose your_device_drive:\Garmin\GPX\current.gpx. So you can make backup by copying this file directly to PC.

check my gps my GPX file is not in folder GPX, and dont have extension
(dont comment "gamsupp.img" is one 2009 file and i use SD card lol)
