Yes, splitting into 2 mapsets will work. Some early and regional 300 series have only 512MiB flash drive, although NA certainly in the later releases anyway and probably EU have 2GiB [1.87 usable], but taking basemap, voices etc into consideration doesn't leave a lot of room for internal detail maps on the limited memory units. I'm going from uncertain recollection, but i think that the following detail map img file names will work in the unit itself:

    1. gmapsupp.img
    2. gmapprom.img
    3. gmapprom1.img
    4. gmapoem.img [may not work for all maps, or may not be selectable/deselectable in Map Info]

Of course you can also use gmapsupp.img for a different map in the SD Garmin folder.

So up to 5 different detail map image files is maybe possible. You can [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to create 1 larger map up to the 2GiB size limit to use as gmapsupp on an SD, or if you have the PC/MS install versions just combine them with MapInstall. If you had for instance a large topo image and didn't mind losing address search you could spit it using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to then make two smaller image files each under 2GiB. Better to use the proper PC/MS version to make the individual images if it's available of course, so for NA & EU which are now both over 2GiB that's the way to go. Just remember to only use BC/MI and never MapSource to compile the 'shortcut' images for modern CNNT maps.

The MX map is working in both screenshots. Because the FID is the same for both mapsets US/CA and MX, they appear as parts of the one map 'CN North America NT 2014.40' which can be enabled and disabled together only, but with [1] and [2] below for the two separate images. Compare that to my first screenshot in the preceding post where i have all of NA 2014.20 showing as just [1] because it's only one img file. If you had 3 maps with same FID, say CA, US and MX as separate img files they would show as [1], [2] & [3] followed by how you named them individually.

this [1] and [2] below for the two separate images. so they are fixed, only the master title can be removed

The 2 statements in red mean exactly the same.

....... i saw the map info, but i dont have mexico , same for gmpprom1.img, only gmapsupp.img working ...........
If the map is present and enabled it should be working whether named gmapsupp, gmapprom or gmapprom1. This is Bangladesh as gmapprom1 in a 360, but it also shows the tile for BGD map named gmapprom or gmapoem:

    g7vt

Hard to say what's wrong in your case with MX working only as gmapsupp when it's displayed in Map Info named as the other 2, but at least it's working for you as that.

yes for 2 different fid, but for one same fid, i think is normal 2 same name gmpasupp.img, in new gps trail mapping, all name working, ex: in one montana, you named your map "Neil.IMG" and your map working.

so i dont know for same fid, if the file .IMG must be the same name on the sd and inside memory, so think you said same think in your previous thread, sorry, english is not my first language

is my 5e language (lol joke)

Yes, I understand you. However, this is tested and confirmed by me:

On the unit: Two parts of the same FID map on the unit where one is named gmapsupp along with another part named any of gmapoem, gmapprom or gmapprom1 works fine. Also, parts with the same FID named gmapprom and gmapprom1 will display, or 2 parts named gmapprom and gmapoem for example. If all the names are used for different FID maps there is no problem using all the names at once.

On the SD: If gmapsupp is on the SD the corresponding FID part on the unit can be named any of the 4 names usable on the unit. i.e. not just gmapsupp but also either gmapprom, gmapprom1 or gmapoem. While the requirement may well be that there can only be one other FID part on the unit it's naming is not limited to gmapsupp [I didn't test with two parts on the unit in combination with gmapsupp on the SD]. I know you haven't been able to get MX working except as gmapsupp and i can't explain why that is.

Here in these screenshots i've got Mainland AU on the SD card, and Tasmania named gmapprom on the unit. It also displays the same Tassie tile re-named as gmapprom1, gmapoem and gmapsupp on the unit:

    5kj2 l9ay

Also fully tested and working: Mainland on the unit as gmapsupp and Tassie as any of the other names or vice versa. As said above i didn't need to use gmapsupp at all on the unit, i can just use any 2 of the other names instead. All names tested and working in all possible combinations both with SD/unit and on unit only.
BTW, that 'anyname'.img is not limited to modern outdoor devices it's applicable to modern nuvis as well.

Ahhh! I wish they would too, but 'If wishes were horses, lame beggars would ride'. At least they did update the 2 series for >4GiB image files and second map gmapsup1 in the SD. That was a pleasant surprise for many ppl, me included. I would be happily astounded if they did it for the 3 series though, much too old for Garmin to ever worry about fw updates for them or 6 series now.

    C'est la vie, mon ami.
