Always glad to help out a neighbour my friend. I only wish our governments could forget the politics and simply co-operate on our basic level ... oh well, maybe this year .....

Back to topic. I haven't tried those two maps together, but wouldn't be surprised if the CN is a little quicker.

And yes, I now have both SPs. I picked up a 2720 cheap, mainly for experimentation. These older units are quite interesting. I want to try flashing 2720 fw_all.bin to the 2610 [using 2610 boot.bin and HWID] but afterwards will be probably faced with 'System Software Missing' message on boot up. I'd previously tried with Honda Goldwing Navi firmware as the first units are essentially a modified SP 2610 but a recent fw upgrade allows them to read NT maps. Same message result on boot. I'm not game to try with the full GW Navi or 2720 fw as these old units cannot be 'cured' easily the way modern nuvi units can be if they've been bricked. There are some other things i can try yet though . In spite of being an earlier model than 2720, the 2610 has a considerable advantage in having a CF card slot which can use up to 2GB of map data. Although it can only see one detail map [GMAPSUPP.IMG] on the card in a Garmin folder, it's possible to combine maps by joining map images with GMAPTool, or simply adding maps from various PC Versions to make one big image file which i've done with OSM Oceana, some local tiles from Contours Aust 5M and Garmin WorldMap V5 minus the Americas to keep the tile numbers below the limit. The world map is handy for browsing other areas such as EU because like you I have a US unit with an Americas Routable Basemap. It includes some Worldwide minor detail such as locations of major cities and country outlines but no major roads in our area like the Pacific version basemap does. I have the Pacific version but have been unable to flash it to region 3 the way gmapprom can be flashed to region 49. If i find a way to do it i'll let you know.
