Thread: Using TMC in Garmin nuvi for free

Hello Everyone,
I have a Garmin 660 in lower 48 in US. When I originally bought this unit,it came with 3 months free traffic. I have been trying to figure out how to make this work again ever since without sub. I have read and read and read some more,but no luck. On this unit,I cannot find those settings I need. On the initial screen , there is only the wrench and the speaker. When you click on the wrench,there is not the commands listed in this post to get where I need to be. I have downloaded the generator.Is there anyone here that might have a 660 that has done this willing to give me a few pointers? I am really new to this. I have loaded 2012 unlocked map into it with success. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much lolypop000. Ok I have done that and of course you were right. It shows TTN (US,CAN):Expired. When I click (ADD), it gives me the receiver I.D. then when I click on next, It wants the 25 digit code to activate. Ok now that I am this far,I "think" what I need to know is how to generate the activation code. I think i would use JM-KG 1.5+ 5 digit+checksum fix. Is this a correct assumption? Also is there a step-by-step? I just don't remember after reading so many pages. I think I forgot most of what I read!! LOL If you get a chance, would you mind letting me know what you think? EDIT: I see this on the first page of this thread....Start keygen, insert TMC ID into field Enter your Unit ID here then go to Select Map Product and choose Custom Mapset. In Custom Mapset window check Enable additional fields and fill all 4 values for FID, PID, RgnID, VenID. What I am confused about is it says "insert TMC ID into field" then "Enter your Unit ID here. I only see one place to enter either TMC ID or UNIT ID. I understand the rest of it I think except which do I choose,Garmin Mobile XT or PC? Also there are 2 spots to click generate? Would you click top one or bottom one? I believe the other info is FID.. 28992 PID..0 RgnID..0 VenID..1. that is what is on first page for TTN US & CAN. Open keygen

Add TMC ID in first window (dont chaneg anything else)

Go to select map

click on custom and add FID,PID....

click on generate button below this window where you add PID......

It worked great for about 30 seconds or so. It went to Lifetime subscription to expired again. I have seen this alot in this thread,but can't remember the fix (if any) Do you have any suggestions about this? Thank you very much again for all your help....spoc

Well, I read through all 392 posts again.Did make some changes. I created a code for US and installed,rebooted then installed code for Canada and rebooted. It still comes up with sub expired. At this point I am at my wits end LOL If I am not close enough to the radio signal,will this happen? I would really like to get this to work, but can't figure out what is wrong. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thank you very much....spoc

Edit #2: Ok, I realize reply's are almost non-existant because there are so many posts about this thread. Everyone thinks someone that asks questions with all these posts is just lazy. This is not the case! I have read this damn thread in full 3 different times along with hours on Google trying to acomplish this. Here is what I learned on this thread form this site. Use the newer keygen to create unlock code. Instructions for this say to put in Unit ID and radio ID which is impossible.Then you have to add BOTH US and Canada to keep from expiring. DOESN't work for me. Then you have a guy that makes a code from a "random" number in the older keygen. That doesn't work either.Then someone says,if you do it too many times, your screwed because once its filled,you cant erase all the old tries.On that note,I am trying to get this to work properly before that happens,But after all the typing I have done,only 1 person has taken the time out of their busy schedule to at least try to help. I thought a website like this was for helping people,not ignoring them. Maybe you all know a hell of a lot more about this subject than I, but can guarantee I know more about alot of other topics than most here. If someone were to ask me about something I knew about,I am ALWAYS more than happy to help. So, even though I have done everything posted, Do you have to be in an area that is transmitting for the expired to go away or is it still expired? If you do not wish to help , that is fine,but then why are you a member?

main issue is less experience from the community (may be only me) and very less information form the question raised.

Can you check Developer Menu (Diagnostic page) - Developer info - GTM FM table ? Post the screen, then we see the list of subscriptions.

Do this again once you put in the new code for life time.

Sometime on the reboot unit and also need to disconnect the GTM cable for power source.

Can you check if it's the same screen from this post? if no subscription list I assume no traffic code or it's out of order.

Just for your information:
It seems the code for South Africa, even it's accepted by the device, is not working on my unit.
It shows up in the list of TMC providers, but the traffic symbol never shows up
GTM35 with Nuvi3790.
Probably needs a SA firmware/device
