I planing to buy Garmin Oregon 450 or Montana 600. Use for cycling and walking in the forest. I think Montana 600 maybe will be to big for this purpose? What do you think?
How big memory SD Micro card can i use in Garmin Oregon 450 and Montana 600. (4,8,16,32?)
Montana is cool. Have a lot of functions compared to other garmin handhelds. But it is big and...not very cheap. If it is only for cycling and walking I would prefer Dakota or the new etrex 20/30 as they are compact.
I have a Montana 600 and love it. It is so much better and faster than the GPSMAP 60CSX I had previously.
The Montana has a nice big screen. If you can live with the bigger size then you cannot go wrong with the Montana.
All devices expect Oregon and Montana have only a display with about 35.000 pixels - thats for topo maps with a lot of information not enough.
GPS-Devices: serveral Garmin, Samsung Galaxy, Audi MMI
Mostly because map browsing is not a primary function of outdoor devices. And even Montana at this task is very inferior to a sheet of paper map.
Hi,
If you use a good raster map in addition to garmin vector map on your Montana, you do not really need to have a paper map cause the screen is large enough to display large areas : it is so pleasant not to have to open a paper map when it's windy and just have a look on your Montana screen !
However, keep a paper map in your backpack in the case where your Montana gets out of order.
I can't see any reason to use raster map, when vector maps give vastly more functionality, better visibility, take less space and work faster.
For sure big screen is a good feature, but size and weight of Montana is out of proportion. And even Garmin wasn't able to put there a speaker.
Sorry, but french raster maps are far more detailed than garmin Topo France V2 (May be in other countries are Garmin vector maps better than raster maps but not in France). For example, rock bars are only displayed on french raster maps.
As far as Montana weight and size are concerned, it is not a real problem.
