You have to use TYP file to get transparent polygons. Standard types usually have solid colors in GPS.

What I want to achieve is to just have a single polish format mp file with the customise polygon section to compile it into a single img file for uploading to GPSr.
I don't want to have a separate TYP file and a IMG file to upload.
    Can this be done?

TYP file is subfile for uploaded IMG file. It is not work as separate file! The customs polygon section do not allow to use not-standard Garmin texture, but TYP section in uploaded IMG give you this possibility. Garmin always use TYP too and you no need to worry it is official Garmin tool!
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
