In 2012, Garmin has provided updated firmware for older nüvi models to allow for a second separate map file on an SD. For instance the nüvi 250 here:
I have tried to put two maps on an SD but had a problem figuring out the right syntax. Tried following combinations before eventually being successful:Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
- 1st map gmapsupp.img in folder \Garmin -- 2nd map gmapprom.img in folder \Garmin: only 1st map recognised
- 1st map gmapsupp.img in folder \Garmin -- 2nd map gmapprom.img in folder \Map: only 1st map recognised
- 1st map gmapsupp.img in folder \Garmin -- 2nd map gmapsupp1.img in folder \Garmin: only 1st map recognised
- 1st map gmapsupp.img in folder \Map -- 2nd map gmapsupp1.img in folder \Map: no map recognised
- 1st map gmapsupp.img in folder \Garmin -- 2nd map gmapsup1.img in folder \Garmin: both maps recognised
Tried only on nüvi 250, but should be fine on following models: 200, 250, 260, 270, 200W, 250W, 2x5, 2x5W, 7xx and 7x5. Just make sure you've updated to the latest firmware version.
Enjoy!
Mod Edit: gmapsup1.img works as 2nd map in Garmin folder on SD card also in 465T as well as all 2xx/W & 7xx series models with recent US/EU fw only. Not applicable to Asian fw models.
In all the above-mentioned units, internal detail maps naming convention is: gmapprom.img; gmapprom1.img; gmapsupp.img and possibly gmapoem.img (gmapoem naming may not work with all maps, will not be de-selectable even if it does appear in map info).
Maps must be placed in Garmin folder only on both unit and SD card observing naming as above. Other file names or placement won't work and nor will 'Map' folder work in SD or internal memory with the above series models.

:-). I've got one question: Does all written above applies to my old Garmine Etrex Vista HCx with SD 1 GB- software version 3,20 and GPS software version 2,80 to <How to get two separate map files on SD working on some older nüvi GPS models> and to be more specific, I like to install from VRU002R the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast slice only, abt 1,81 MB. For now I have only BG Topo Lat 13.12 installed on device and abt 600MB free space. Tried to install on device by using Mapsource but result was a disaster: None installed,Bg Top Lat deleted. I read somewhere in bulgarian forums vague and controversial posts that it's possible using GMapTool, that this Blue Chart format is discontinued/ inapplicable for my device and so and so for...If anyone help me with technuque on how to procede, if possible I'll appreciate very much. Thanks in advance
