thankyou been looking to see if there was a update
OK, just a few observations I ran into. One of the (older) units I have is a nüvi 350. Its memory properties are as follows:
Please note the 2,013,126,656 bytes of memory only equate to 1.87 GB!
Calculation: 2,013,126,656 / (2^30). Explanation here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
So, in all honesty, I don't see how a 1.97 GB size map is going to help me on an older unit.
That's when I decided to try to fit it on a 2GB microSD card (Kingston). Properties shown below:
Now, bear in mind that the 1,973,092,352 bytes equate to 1,881.7 MB [or 1.84 GB].
Calculation: 1,973,092,352 / (2^20) [or 1,973,092,352 / (2^30)].
So that wasn't going to help me either with a map size of 1.97 GB. I therefore decided to reduce the map further myself, using the MapSource version and selecting fewer map tiles in MapInstall, setting the destination to the 2 GB microSD. Now this is where it's getting interesting... MapInstall can't calculate!!! Let the screenshot below speak for itself...
Frustrating part is that this message only appears once the map file on the PC has been built by MapInstall (taking well more than an hour!). Only then it tells me the space on the microSD is not enough!
By trial and error I finally got the desired map, but had to leave out well more than only Ukraine. In fact, I had to leave out practically everything east of Poland and everything north of (roughly) the line Stockholm / Helsinki. Result below:
.
Having this file now (both the locked and unlocked version), I don't mind uploading it here. Just need someone to tell me how.

@smokefree
Format SD card to FAT32 and Europe NT 2011.32 1.97GB UnLocked Image For older devices will run from SD
Look on your first picture FAT32 is 1.87Gb
FAT is 1.83Gb
FAT support only file to 2Gb
FAT32 support file to 4Gb
Just format SD to FAT32 and map from caty will go on SD
@ lolypop000
Will try your suggestion when I get home later today and report back. If that works, I would be really happy!!!
Hi,
I downloaded the files from post 1 locked files and unlocked them with jetmouse 1.5 patched and loaded them into mapsource 16.6.3 patched and everything seems fine. The maps transfer to my device fine.
However when the device is turned on I get a "Maps can not be authenticated message" I take it this is the GMA thing.
I tried using the fast unlocker 1.5 and still the same error. Is there a way to solve this ?
Plan B:
So downloaded the unlocked images in post 27 and they load into the device fine.Works great 1 at a time but is it possible to merge the files into 1 map ?
When I extact each rar file I have tried renaming them from gmapsupp.img to 11111111.img 11111112.img etc etc untill I have them all as img files.
I then used gmap tool and try to use this to compile 1 map adding all the .img but it creates errors.
Can this be done ?
Thanks

In post one there are links for mapsource installation
to unlock you can run this on your gmap folder and send unlocked IMGs to your device

Fast IMG Unlocker unlock IMGs and you wont have the gma problem anymore, run it on your IMGs correctly ,it doesnt fail.
You have to navigate to get to the good.

Big secret which device u use?
I would appreciate if you could give as much information as possible, then its easier to help
Regret to note that the change of file system on the 2 GB microSD card makes no difference (actually it got even worse...). I used the PC to format the card in FAT32:
Also tried SD Formatter 3.0. That application doesn't even let you choose the file system. By default it formats a 2GB card in FAT. So back to my earlier thought: what good is a map of 1.97 GB for older units if it doesn't fit on either the unit or a 2GB card?
On kingston is show 1.87
