It's not quite that simple, but.
If you have a good screen, if the connectors are the same, control electronics as well, you can. Regardless of screen size (4, 5, 6, 7" or more), WinCE was limited to 800x600 resolution (there were a couple of models with 1024x600, but ignore them).

The firmware can be the same or similar enough even for devices of different brands - then cross-flashing is possible. It must be the same chipset, the same GPS receiver, the same bluetooth chip, tmc chip, if any.
It was often possible to convert one device to another by simply flashing the firmware. "Simply", whether you have the appropriate software or programmer device.

In principle, with the same brand, if the devices are of the same generation, for example the 5- and 7-inch models can have identical chipsets and even the same motherboard, and thus identical firmware (which differs only in naming)
However, there were also cases where they had completely different motherboards.

But, if your device does not have a Bluetooth receiver, no firmware can replace it.

The fact that the same software works on a bunch of different devices has nothing to do with this story.
iGO and the WinCE system itself are designed to work on a zillion different devices that naturally comply with certain manufacturing specifications.
Adequate drivers, datazip that supports dozens of resolutions and only one exe file are the basis of iGO.

Ah thank you. You just gave me an idea to save a total strip down. Technically if i open both up and if the screen ribbon cable from the 9" fits into the 7" board and it fires up/working fine then ill swap them over. They are both Xgody and i am sick of asking them for the correct firmware. They think software is firmware and keep offering me Primo with maps.

Sadly this did not work. I am still waiting on Xgody sending the firmware. The ribbon cables look identical but on the board the smaller one is fixed facing the opposite direction what means turning the ribbon back but also twisted 180 degree. Although it was to short to do this i would not have been happy with the twist anyway so gave up. Thanks for your help Boki_Srb and you were correct it is the X4 model
