Default Nuvi 1490TV video input connection (or Dezl Camper 560 760)

Does anyone know which pins on the 3.5mm video input socket are used for the signal and what type of video signal is allowed? I believe the Dezl Camper 560 760 units may be similar. I'm looking to connect a reversing camera.

How do I connect the camera to the nüvi 1490tv?

Connect the camera to your nüvi through the video-in jack on the left side of the nüvi. See page 4. 2. Touch TV. 3. If necessary, follow the on-screen instructions. nüvi 1490TV Owner’s Manual \u0018\u0018 Managing Files Managing Files Notice

I have already read the manual, which does not, unfortunately, answer the questions I asked initially.

    Video-In
S-Video or composite, always - standard, otherwise they are equivalent and easily converted into one another.

The information that the camera can be connected also goes in favor.

I assume that the appropriate cable should go with the device or can be ordered from the manufacturer (and costs relatively expensive ).
Well I also guess you want to make it (there are some to buy on the market, cheap).

Pay attention - are you sure it's 3.5mm? It is audio standard. Maybe it is 3mm, or less, maybe very similar.
If so, you can use something like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Thanks for confirming that it is probably composite video. The official Garmin cable is TRRS 3.5mm to phono but I cannot find any documentation to tell me which of the 4 connections on the 3.5mm TRRS plug are used to carry the video input.

4 contact surfaces, then it is most likely S-Video. But what is the order in the device...
If the nomenclature is followed, then

    Pin 1 GND Ground (Y)
    Pin 2 GND Ground (C)
    Pin 3 Y Intensity (Luminance)
    Pin 4 C Color (Chrominance)

You can experiment, if you miss something you can't be dangerous Either there will be no picture or there will be no colors.

The other end of the official Garmin cable is a phono in-line socket so only two connections which must mean composite not S-video. Looks like I need to experiment with the cable I have which is not the Garmin one.

Then it's simpler. One is ground, other is signal, source. But ... you didn't write what you were connecting.

As I said in the first post I am thinking about using the Garmin unit to view a reversing camera. I have not got one as yet.

By experimentation I have now established that the composite video input to the Nuvi 1490TV should be connected to the middle two ring connectors on the 4 pin 3.5mm TRRS plug as for the standard camcorder cable in the diagram below.
