Guide Alert/Speedcam icons, what is it and how to change it

About once a week, someone will asked how to change/hide the alert/speedcam icons. Which the answers are posted many times already.
    Spoiler: What is it?

There are 32 alert types that has their own icons to be shown on the map. For example, "speedcam" such as RedlightCamera
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    or "alerts" such as SchoolZone
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Some people wants to change it or hide these icons. Note that they still want the alert/speedcam to work (visual and audio notification) just not displayed on the map.

    Spoiler: How to...

There are .bmp files that are .spr (Sprite) containing the 32 icons graphics (for the 32 associated speedcam/alert types.) There are two sets: speedwarn0.bmp and speedwarn1.bmp (and their associate .spr files)
They are originally in data.zip/ui_nextgen/res/common/<res> where <res> are:
ldpi, mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi, xxxhdpi
They can also be in other .zip files such as "skins" and UX's. You have to track them down and changed the "last" one used by proggy to see the effect.
The .bmp files are originally in NNG RLE format and needs to be converted to Window BMP format so you can use a normal graphic editor to change it.
Understand how NNG sprite works at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
As an example, you can find my UX that "hide" Schoolzones (type=9) at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Default

    The "User" method
    Spoiler: .

You can use any graphic editor (as long as it can read/write Window BMP format)
You then need to change the appropriate <res> version you are using. If you don't know, change all <res> versions: ldpi, mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi, xxxhdpi
There are at least two .bmp files that need changing but speedwarn1.bmp is more important.
You will need to determine the height of each icon (icon_height). It's specified in the associate .spr file under "Stripes" For example, with <res>=hdpi the speedwarn1.spr has
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Or you can computed it yourself as bitmap_height/32 (since it's a vertical sprite with 32 icons)
You then determined where each icon type is located in the sprite .bmp
For example, for type=0 it will start at y_start=0. The type=1 will starts at y_start=icon_height and type=n will starts at y_start=icon_height*n
    The y_end is just y_start+icon_height
Use your favorite editor and modified the graphic at y_start to y_end. You can "delete" it by making all pixels in that area transparent. Or you can replaced it with your own. This is not a graphic editor tutorial, so I won't go into detail. I might give one on what graphic editor I'm using later.
For example, speedwarn1.bmp under the hdpi directory has a resolution of 48x1760, so bitmap_width=48 and bitmap_height=1760
This makes each icon having a resolution of 48x55, so icon_width=48 and icon_height=55
the 55 is from .spr or computed as 1760/32=55
If you want to enlarge each icon to 60x80, you have to create speedwarn1.bmp with the size of 60x2560 because there are 32 icons stacked vertically with each icon_height being 80 for a bitmap_height=80*32=2560

    hot

Here is my GUI wrapper around imagemagick. Tested for Win7 and Win10; thanks to a very old member for testing.
It's a "Trial" version, so it has 30 secs starting and exiting waiting time. Also it will auto exit in 15 mins.
You have about a month to play with this beta release until it's expired.
For personal uses only! DO NOT POST ANYWHERE.
    Spoiler: .

Unrar under a directory. Make sure convert.exe is in same directory as spritemod.exe
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Load an image format of .gif, .jpg, .png or .bmp (uncompressed, not RLE) by Drag&Drop or using the "File" button
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Make sure "Icon Cnt" is correct (for speedcam it's always 32) and "Split" the image into 32 icons
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Remove an icon by making transparent via "Zap", note index starts at 0
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

"Join" them together with new size and add border around each icons
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Generate an animate GIF of the icons
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Installing pixelformer from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] will allow it to be launch when clicking on an image or icon;
otherwise, it will default to launching Window's paint.
