I'm new to the forum but I've had a Garmin 350 for long time. I use a Kingston 8gb now a Kingston 16gb sd card for my tunes. Last week I decided that the price was right for a 3490ltm so I pulled the trigger. The 3490 is really nice and it has the lifetime map and HD traffic but I sorely miss mp3 playback during a route. I used Garmin Express to update the map to 2015.10. and the firmware is 8.20. I have Windows 8 and I see the .system directory with the manifest file
I changed these two lines to
0:/Garmin/DeviceConfig_MP3_Enabled.xml,67247a5d
0:/Garmin/DeviceConfig_VideoPlayback_Enabled.xml,67247a5d
But I still require the media player app to play my tunes
I can supply a blank Kingston 8GB Fat32 SD card. I understand it's possible to flash the card and that would load the media player app. I did experiment with the card from my 350 and it changed the map and used the card instead of internal and then when I removed the card the map used the internal one again.
So my question is mainly what is the process to flash the card? Which firmware is the correct one? If it does not work is it safe to assume when I pull the sd card it will return to stock?
Thanks
