Again i really don't know what you are actually telling us there but i suspect it's maybe something important of which i at least am not aware. The majority of users here use a PC to access their units and media cards to add, delete or modify files and folders. Those who use a Mac and have trouble usually then don't when it is suggested to them to use a PC, which is the standard advice from PC users. But at least then if they do continue to have problems it is simpler to help them because then we can better work out what happened and advise them accordingly. I don't want to turn this discussion into a Mac v. PC thing (i know next to nothing about Mac anyway and am far from a PC expert as well), but i have never seen or heard a comment similar to yours:
My lack of understanding could be partly due to the wording of it (google/bing translation to English, maybe from Russian?) and perhaps you are saying something like this:
Hiding Garmin files in Windows is dangerous. (if so, why?). I think that you should use the appropriate software. (what software do we need to use then?). Windows causes damage (or interferes with/alters/modifies files) which could cause a malfunction of the Garmin unit. (how does Windows do that to them and to which specific files/folders, and what particular malfunction/s result?).
My questions in red italics.

Well, you should not make statements and then not be prepared to explain or justify them when queried. Please qualify what you are saying and prooflink, and maybe start a new thread if you do have something novel and important to tell us because it's really OT in this thread.

have loaded V4.60 FW on a euro GW with V2.20 . the system got upgraded with no problem and India NT maps working fine .
added photo for both.
Spoiler: images
Nice, thanks for that. I think as India drives on the left it's possible you may have some routing problems with the US fw. There was an earlier report from someone in UK who had problems with US fw on a Euro GW (exits on Highways wrong, i think). A further report after extensive road testing would be welcome.
IMPORTANT: Edit to black out your ID, or remove your photos. You unit could be cloned if the wrong person gets your unit ID.

Nice tip for the alternative of using openstreetmaps. The thing is though because they are 'non-NT' format images, they will work in any garmin device including the older units such as the GW units running the fw versions before 4.5/4.6. Only genuine Garmin issued maps are NT (New Technology) which is a proprietary format and has not been fully decrypted outside of Garmin, or if it has they're not saying .

I have attempted updating firmware and maps on two friends 2008 Goldwings. I have a 2010. We were unsucessful both times. I believe all instruction here is valid but did notice the last time that for just an instant the screen on the Goldwing GPS displayed "unable to read CF Card". We were using a 4 gig card and a faster speed. We had obtained the smallest and slowest we could locate. It appears we will have to order a 2 gig card online and try again. Can anyone verify this being a problem? We did not want to take a chance on corrupting the original card. I did see that someone else had the unable to read card issue but did not see a resolution to it.
@LRClyde
Using a 4 Gib card should not be an issue, regardless of speed. The speed only relates to write speed. The read speed is the same regardless of the class of card (e.g. a SanDisk Ultra II has a minimum write speed of 15 MB/sec but its read speed is the same in your unit as a lower spec card). However, having an image file of 2 GiB or larger on your 4 Gib or larger card was once very much an issue because many older Garmin units had a file size limitation of 2 GiB. Later fw updates changed that for many units and their limit is now 4 Gib minus 1 byte which is actually a limitation of FAT32. Not sure if the GW and SP units are still stuck with the 2 GiB image size limit. You should try with a 2 Gib card but that may not be your problem in this case.

We tried installing the 4 gig card with no information on it. Fresh from package. We still noted the message unable to communicate with cf card.
