The difference is that ASR1 are 'old-school', first introduced for 8xx nuvi series and used also for nuvi 2x60 and 3790. Later units like 34/35xx > use ASR2 technology which is less buggy and works better than ASR1. Language-related *srd files don't need to be changed with the map whereas *.asr/*srx files do.
Follow what Loly's said above. In explanation, you cannot use the British English Voice Command without both an appropriate english TTS *.vpm voice file in Voice folder and en_GB.srd in ASR folder and the full EU map. You may also need to set the unit to UK locale.
