    Hi luddite Biggerdave, :-)
Windows 7 is as rock solid as xp and 8.398, my advice should you be tempted is partition your harddrive in two so you can add win7 or better still buy a fresh harddrive to put it on, both methods will give you the option of booting into windows7 or xp on start up, this way you gain but dont loose as you will always have a spare os to boot into should one go wrong, i have xp, 7 and 8 to boot into on a 1 terrabyte drive, you can add a new os in addition to an older os but not the other way round ie, win7 first then xp for instance, this of course wont be a problem for yourself as you already have xp installed.
    jazz.

Cheers jazz but being a luddite also means I couldn't be arsed with multiple OS's so I'll just trundle along in ignorant bliss running XP

    fair doo's,
where we do share common ground is in still using 8.398 as i have read of more problems than benifits running 9.700, 905 maps are not really any better than 900 or 901 to justify the upgrade as of yet, however should tt release a rev 1 9.700 or better then that may tip the scales.

    Further to the above

    Wierd or what?

Just been asked to explain this to a customer using this on an x20 and an x40 & he says it didn't work like that.
Just checked on my 520 (like x30's) and the normal "Edit Vehicle profile" is there on Preferences page 1 and on my 550 Preferences page 7 so no more problems with this??

PS Just checked another couple of devices and the ONE XL does have this "Edit Vehicle profile" on Preferences page 7 BUT a 940 does NOT have this anywhere....so maybe this is "just" an x40 problem?

    Not really
When I was playing with the truck stuff I noticed all profiles cane used and the profile selection will stay in the menu - until you select a truck profile.
After that in most cases no more vehicle options are available, only the truck parameters can be adjusted.
Weird thing is that occasionally you got them back with a cold start or emulation switch.
Also this emu switching does not always work for devices outside the officially supported range.
On request the TT support stated:
Being a dedicated Truck system the additional vehicle profiles are for the use with vehicles that might require special routing.
Our dedicated truck units are for permanent istallation so there is no need to go back to a car profile.
After explaining that not everyone uses the feature rich WORKS device but instead use a X20 or X30 model:
If you require different profiles we suggest use a dual setup.
Use a profile selection of your choice on the internal memory but do not select a truck profile.
Copy the content of the internal memory to a SD card start the Tomtom.
Select truck profile and set the dimensions as required.
To go back to car routing simply remove the SD.

So I assume visible vehicle options after a truck selection is only a "glitch"

    Thanks for that d/u

After more playing I've found that ONLY on an x40 if you DO select car/taxi/other/van you lose the option to change vehicle profile again unless you remove SD card/reboot/re-insert etc or do a factory reset THEN you have the option back.
However, on One XL or x50 device the option still remains in preferences page 1 and for the x20/x30 it's still on page 7 so it does seem that this glitch/pain only applies to x40 devices (not had a chance to test an x10 but I reckon that will be similar to the One XL/x50)

Could not agree more, 9.701 is current and the 9.700 was replaced quick due to too many errors.
